All Things Paper Blogiversary!

Congrats to “Eagle Eye” Ann on her first year of being a super sleuth in all things paper. Her blog is a wonderful source of inspiration, showcasing and interviewing artists around the world. She is also a talented quiller and writer herself. To celebrate, she’s giving away a book, Quill It Easy, where her work is also shown – all you have to do is comment on her post.

Quilled Valentine Gift Tag

We received this loving batch of cookies for Valentine’s Day, complete with customized quilled tag – yes! I feel the love 🙂

Quilled Snowflakes

Amazing what I find when cleaning out my hard drive. I’d forgotten all about these fun flakes I made two years ago. Here’s a free snowflake grid to help make your snowflakes even. I placed on top of cork board, covered in Saran/cling wrap, then use sewing pins to hold elements in place. The glue releases cleanly from the plastic.

Quilled Lemonade

Hadn’t used my crimper in a while and just had fun making this whimsicle tall glass of cool lemonade. Not sure what to do with it now though.

Quilled Lilac

I wanted to capture the bursting feeling of lilac blossoms for this card, and decided to overlay 2 blossoms on top. Although it’s a little busier than my usual layouts, I like the way it feels more full, like a bushel. I think making the buds in different sizes really makes it feel more dynamic.

Resources for Beginner Quillers

Are you newly smitten with quilling? Below are some links to help you get started. You don’t have to go out and buy all the materials. I taught my niece how to quill with just toothpicks and glue, after we cut regular photocopy paper. She couldn’t stop quilling after that. Enjoy!

I’m thrilled and deeply flattered to have been blogged by Ann Martin, who is adept at quilling and writes about inspiring paper pieces and people.

Quilled Jade

A special gift for a special girl.

The frame is a 9×9″ shadow box from Ikea. The “jade” letters are outlined and printed on a sheet of card. I cut it out from it’s background and filled the insides with flowers and swirls. I then put folded posts underneath to raise it .5″ high, and glued on polka dot patterned scrapbook paper.

The background swirl was glued in place after the letters were set. I think the one swirl that was allowed to come forward to brush the “j” adds to the depth. Of course the cherry on top of the cupcake is the pièce de résistance.

I offer instructions on how to make my flowers and hope you’ve been inspired!

Quilled b’day card for my mom

Inside of card

I tried quilling a b’day card for my mom last month too. I can’t believe how long it took, and I ended up cutting up the elements and putting it back together again because I didn’t like the layout, but I was pretty happy with the final result. Mom liked it too. Still can’t get over how long it took me though.

Little ‘O’liva

I had so much fun making the monogramed M for Maddie that I wanted to make a little “o” for the little sister with big smiles, Olivia!

This is a much smaller frame but I’m sure little Ollie won’t mind!

‘M’ is for Madeline

This is a framed monogram ‘M’ quilled for a 12×12 opening. This was made especially for my niece’s new room.

Quilled Cupcakes

I still have to add the greetings on them, but right now I’m just enjoying “baking” them all. As for HOW did I make them??? Believe me, I’m kicking myself for not taking notes. I’m selling them at this weekend’s mini craft fair to make more room for new flavors.

Condolence Card for Nana

I really enjoyed making this card for my friend who lost his beloved Nana, peacefully at age 98. They shared many talks over tea and cookies.

I finished the congratulation’s card using Cec’s template :-).  Used it yesterday at a friend’s baby one-month. Perfect timing.

Quilled Bouquet Wannabe

bouquet_2474_400px

Saw a photo of a round bouquet of flowers and thought I’d love to quill that, but do it without flowers. I still have to add the part where you hold it, but I wonder if I should just stop as is. I’ve also hidden a little something in there.

quilled wedding cake card

Inspired by Cecelia, I quilled this three tiered wedding cake card for a friend’s upcoming wedding.

It was super fun to make. Just took a lot of time…

whimsical quilled damask

Cec has inspired me to come out of quilling retirement.

I had recently broken the glass on this frame but didn’t want to throw it away. I wanted to make use of it and decided to quill something. I thought a glass-free frame would showcase the textures and dimensions of quilling well.

This is my whimsical attempt at creating a damask pattern.

Quilled Happy Birthday Cards

OK, finally I have signed up with WordPress.com with support and push from my sister-in-law. This is my first project of quilling Birthday card for my friends which use the instructions from Cecelia’s new Etsy listing. Thanks Cec !!

I’m on Etsy now!

etsy_avatarIt may be blasé in a high-tech computer age to be listing on Etsy, but for me it was a huge step.

When I quill, I’ve made items without thinking about length of strip or where the elements will be – they take shape as I go and if it doesn’t feel right I reach for another strip. When I try to re-create something I enjoy and write down a quilling pattern, the two sides of my brain conflict. To create instructions to make my flowers or lay them on a card has been quite a process – not to mention how to photograph my hands when both are glueing pieces together!

Anyway, I have been buoyed by friends and comments here on this blog to put instructions together. Thank you always for your encouragement!

Pink is the birthday girl’s fave color. I’m very excited to give it to her because it’s based on my new designs I’m launching on Craftsy:
